If a member of your family was ever to go missing you would go to the police and expect a missing persons report to be filed and an immediate search to happen. If this loved one was not found immediately, you might expect the media to get involved, and that you would see the case on television showing your neighbors coming out to help with the search. Even worse, you could never imagine that a child can go missing and no one would ever know. Yet this happens every day right here in the United States of America.
Outpost For Hope is THE ONLY organization that works with individuals and families as well as social service and law enforcement agencies to provide guidance, education, information, training, support recovery, and reunification of unreported missing persons.
When the person concerned is an addict or mentally ill person, then the issue of 'relapse' with addiction and persons going off medication in regards to mental illness is a common theme - anyone who has loved ones with these issues has to deal with this and it is often a great source of frustration and heartache. To expect someone who has been lost and homeless for example to just 'come home' and 'stay home' is not realistic. The family needs an ongoing plan for recovery and to almost 'expect relapse'..It is no wonder families just give up on their relatives completely. Often times there aren't any treatment options - it's a real mess in so many ways and it is something we can address. Apart from the heartache, the consequences of a missing child or adult going unreported are many. For example, if a person goes missing but no official missing persons report is filed and this person was killed or died of natural causes, their remains might never be returned to their family because there is no way for a coroner to trace the remains back to the family who is looking for that person. It is also well known that sexual predators and killers target marginalized people who are not easily missed, such as homeless adults and children, foster children, and prostitutes.
