The Lost Highway Awareness Campaign
There are many harsh realities for people who don't get the mental health treatment that they need. We've identified 11 outcomes so far and believe there could be more. Outpost for Hope is often the last resort for families in crisis whose loved ones with mental illness and/or co-occurring addictions have gone missing and 'off the grid'.
Many end up among our homeless, some become victims of human trafficking and exploitation, and others meet a more final outcome such as becoming a victim of a homicide and/or joining the silent statistics of the unidentified deceased John and Jane Doe population.
If you have 10 minutes - we invite you to watch "Chapter 1 of The Lost Highway Chronicles - which begins with the story of Outpost for hope founder Libba Phillips early years of the search for her sister Ashley and reveals the hidden population of 'missing missing' persons. Stay tuned for more Lost Highway Chronicle stories of other families with lost loved ones and interviews with 'first responders' in the fields of mental health, criminal justice, and homeless services that have led to the often tragic but preventable outcomes and research that we've uncovered during the last 14 years.
We know that lives can be saved with the implementation of policies such as assisted outpatient treatment and mental health courts, for example. We just have to open our eyes to see the truth and be a part of making that change happen for the rest of society.
We hope that by revealing these stories of The Lost Highway using the powerful medium of video and online advocacy that we can inspire a movement for social justice and support for our work so that better public policies can be put in place and innocent lives can be saved.
